Women’s health journeys don’t begin with a diagnosis

Because what happens before matters

THE PROBLEM

For too many women the journey towards better health can be long, fragmented and unnecessarily difficult

Women can spend months, sometimes years, in “health limbo” which can mean more time living in poor health. Women already spend nearly four more years in poor health than men, while their healthy life expectancy is falling faster (ONS, 2026).

Women try and want to improve their health, but often lack the guidance they need to move forward and face system fatigue. Making sense of what’s happening is only part of the challenge. Knowing what to do next, where to turn, which information to trust and how to make informed decisions along the way can be just as difficult. In the meantime, health problems can persist or worsen, affecting their lives and work.

HEALTH NAVIGATION IS LABOUR. The time, headspace and emotional work it requires is rarely recognised as such. That burden is not equally distributed: it disproportionately affects women and can compound existing health inequalities. Women also carry disproportionate caring responsibilities, while gaps in women’s healthcare and unequal access to information and support can make navigating health harder. Fatigued by the system and everything else they carry, women can put their own health further down the list.

We believe this often-overlooked part of women's health deserves greater attention.

We believe there's a better way. And that understanding what happens along the way could change how we approach women's health.

OUR APPROACH

Starting with women. Grounded in evidence. Exploring what's possible.

WISERly is an early-stage women's health innovation venture exploring how technology can help women navigate their health journeys and make informed decisions.

We're bringing together women's lived experiences, clinical expertise, local engagement with health institutions, research and emerging technologies to develop new approaches to women's health support.

Our work is grounded in three principles:

Listening to women

Understanding women’s experiences, the challenges they face and what they actually need when navigating their health. We design with women, and make sure different experiences, circumstances and perspectives shape what we build.

Working with evidence

Exploring how established clinical knowledge, research and a better understanding of women’s health journeys can inform more effective support. We look beyond the UK to learn from promising approaches and solutions where there is evidence of impact.

Testing what works

Working collaboratively with women, healthcare professionals, researchers and technology specialists to develop and test new approaches. Through ongoing user feedback and interaction, we learn what works, what doesn’t and continually improve what we build.

We’re not starting with a predetermined solution. We’re starting with a problem worth solving.

THE SOLUTION

We're working on it.

WISERly is in the early stages of development.

We're developing new ways to help women reach a diagnosis or desired health outcome sooner, helping them move beyond “health limbo” by supporting them to navigate healthcare (at the earliest stages of their health journey), make informed decisions and access appropriate care.

Our initial work focuses on endometriosis, exploring women's experiences from the first signs of a health concern through to diagnosis, treatment decisions or appropriate care.

We're working with women, healthcare professionals, researchers and technology specialists across Hampshire and the wider region to inform our approach.

Through iterative testing with women, we're exploring how technology can better support them through these journeys.

We believe there's much to learn from women's health journeys, and that these insights could help shape the future of women's healthcare.

There's more to come.

Interested in what we're doing?

We're always interested in connecting with people who share our ambition to improve women's health.

Whether you're a healthcare professional, researcher, technology specialist, potential partner or simply interested in what we're building, we'd welcome a conversation.
